When talking about Indianapolis the first thing that comes to mind it the Indianapolis 500 or the Indy 500. Home to The Greatest Spectacle in Racing, Indianapolis is the capital of the U.S. state of Indiana. According to the 2009 census its estimated population stands at 807,584 making it the 14th largest city in the United States. It is also the fastest growing city in the Midwest.

Much of the area’s economy in the earlier days was governed by the government and the manufacturing sector. Today Indianapolis boasts of a diversified economy with its significant contribution in the field of finance, education and healthcare. Tourism has also majorly contributed to the economic development of the city. It hosts major sporting events and number of conventions that bring in millions of visitors from all over. The annual Indianapolis 500 is one of the biggest sporting events followed by the Brickyard 400 and the Men's and Women's NCAA Basketball Tournaments in the region.

Education has a significant role to play in the development of Indianapolis. Home to some of the finest universities in the country, Indianapolis attracts students from all over the world. Some of the notable universities include the Ball State University, Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana, Oakland City University, The Art Institute of Indianapolis, Vincennes University Aviation Technology Center, the University of Indianapolis and the Butler University founded in1855 and formerly known as North Western Christian University.

Indianapolis showcases a rich and varied cultural heritage. The government has taken up many initiatives to ensure that Indianapolis is recognized as a destination for arts and culture. It has identified six official cultural districts that include Broad Ripple Village, Massachusetts Avenue, Fountain Square, The Wholesale District, Canal and White River State Park, and Indiana Avenue. These offer historic and cultural significance to the city and are transforming into major centers for tourism, commerce and residential living.
